The Zakat Fund Launches its Domain on the Internet in Arabic

In continuation of the process of leadership that the Zakat Fund adopted since its inception, the Fund launched its domain in Arabic (صندوق-الزكاة.امارات) on the Internet in line with the policy of Federal governance aiming at facilitating access to the website of the Fund in Arabic, being the first institution in the State to introduce the use of Arabic as a domain on the Internet.
Concerning this event, His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund stated: The domain of the Fund in Arabic reflects our pride in our own language and our sense of belonging to our tradition, of which the UAE is proud. This also provides tremendous opportunities for education and culture for Arabic speaking people, and enhances the values and traditions of the UAE and the Arab World. It also increases the number of Internet users in the state.
Al-Muheiry further pointed out that about 74% of the population of the UAE use the Internet (no more than 3.5 millions), whereas 11 millions use mobile phones, most of whom are connected to the Internet. The new domain will also provide access to all sites in Arabic effortlessly, having e-mail addresses in Arabic for the first time, and doing correspondence in Arabic without the need for using the English keyboard.
Al-Muheiry added that the use of Arabic domain by the Fund under the URL (صندوق-الزكاة.امارات) reflects the vision of the Fund based on leadership and excellence in the service of Zakat, and our noble goal in raising awareness of the Zakat concept and its role in the society. The new domain will increase the number of visitors of the Zakat Fund website which will help achieve the vision and objectives of the Fund.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE launched the first URL in Arabic on the Internet entitled خليفة.امارات, the website launched by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in cooperation with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, which is the official website of the UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This represents the first example of its kind in the history of the Internet, which allows registration and use of URLs in languages other than English, according to the Emirates News Agency.
