The Zakat Fund offers 109 thousand dirhams as help to a family with blind members
Source: Emarat Al-Youm Newspaper, p. 11, on 27/05/2010 Ahmed Al-Muzahmi, Al-Ain The Zakat Fund at Abu Dhabi offered assistance to a family with 21 members, including four blind siblings, at Al-Ain, with the amount of 109 thousand dirhams, in the form of monthly payments and lump sums. Two of the four siblings also suffered from kidney failure, and all of them had a difficult financial situation, which even became worse after cessation of the assistance offered to them to meet their daily life needs. According to the Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the Fund studied the siblings’ case, and verified that they were eligible for assistance, and immediate assistance of 6000 dirhams was offered to Mohamed Ismail, the breadwinner of the 21-member family. The sum will be paid monthly for one year, in addition to an amount of 2000 dirhams for the widow of one of the siblings to be paid monthly for one year. He stated that the Fund gave the family the maximum monthly value allowed, which is 6000 dirhams, the largest amount paid by societies and charities in the UAE, and valued the role of the hotline in Emarat Al-Youm in drawing attention to such cases, which deserve assistance. The siblings, Mohamed (24 years), Salima (36 years), Ibrahim (24 years), and Rashid (22 years) lost their maintainer, the owner of the house where they reside, who died leaving them to face difficult circumstances. They sought help from some charities, but they received no response. In March last year, Emarat Al-Youm published the story of the siblings’ misery, which made the owner of the house where they live in Al-Ain refund the whole value of the rent to them, and leave the house for them as a charitable endowment to live there for their lives. Moreover, she allocated to them an amount of 3000 dirhams a month, to help them meet their living needs, but this stopped with her death, which had a negative impact on their lives.
