130 Million Dirhams of Assistance Provided by the Zakat Fund
Since its foundation, and over five years, the Zakat Fund has provided 130 million dirhams as assistance through its charitable and social projects.The announcement of this assistance was simultaneous with the results of the Fund for the first half of this year, which amounted to ten million dirhams.
HE Abdullah bin Oqeidah Al-Muhiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, stated that since its foundation the Fund, has worked to convey assistance to the needy individuals and families according to the legal channels of Zakat, through the specialized committees and the social researchers of the Fund.
The Zakat Fund Offers 5 Million Dirhams to the Poor and Needy
The Zakat Fund has provided nearly five million and one hundred ninety thousand dirhams within the project of the poor and paupers during the first half of this year, distributed to 324 families. His Excellency Abdullah bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry the Secretary General of the Zakat Fund stated: The increasing number of the needy categories and the increasing living costs for many families, prompted the Zakat Fund to launch a project for the poor and paupers to support such groups and help them get source of living.
The Zakat Fund helps release an imprisoned debtor after 3 years of imprisonment
In its relentless efforts to relieve the suffering of the needy categories, the Zakat Fund managed to help release an imprisoned non-citizen who spent three years in prison for debt, through the payment of his debt from the Zakat amounts allocated for insolvent debtors.
Once information from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Abu Dhabi reached His Excellency Abdullah bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the Secretary General of the Zakat Fund stating that a non-citizen residing in the UAE has been imprisoned for an unpaid rental of forty thousand dirhams, he immediately referred the matter to the Fund's competent committees for settling the problem of that debtor by paying his debt from the Zakat amounts allocated for insolvent debtors.

The Zakat Fund discusses cooperation with the Bahraini delegation
His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the General Secretary of the Zakat Fund received a delegation from Al-Ihsan Charity of Bahrain during the delegation's visit to the UAE for discussing the means of materializing cooperation. Headed by Mr. Eesa Al-Qady, the Charity Board Chairman, and Member of the Bahrain Municipality, and Mohamed Saad and Eesa El-Daway, the board members, the delegation visited the Fund headquarters at Abu Dhabi for discussing the mechanisms of coordination and cooperation, and reviewed the Fund's experience and work system. His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry presented a detailed explanation on the work system within the Fund, pointing out the introduction of electronic programs which serve the interests of Zakat like Zakat payment through the mobile phone, and payment and disbursement of Zakat through the ATM and other electronic programs.
The Zakat Fund concludes the Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting Course
The Zakat Fund concluded its ninth course on the applied contemporary aspects of the Zakat jurisprudence and Accounting, held at Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the Secretary General of the Zakat Fund stated: We thank Allah for the successes achieved by this course for the fifth consecutive year, represented in the large number of participants from all sectors in the society, including individuals, private and public institutions, and the distinguished Islamic banks.
The Zakat Fund opens the ninth course on Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting
Today, the ninth course on the Contemporary Applied Aspects of the Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting organized by the Zakat Fund is to be held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abu Dhabi in coordination with the Chamber, at five pm, and it will be broadcast live on the Fund’s website for four days. His Excellency Abdullah bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, stated: Through such courses, we aim at developing Zakat awareness among the community members. This can be achieved through the participation of a range of the different state, public, and private institutions and businessmen, from among those interested in Zakat calculation, as well as the financial managers and accountants in the Islamic banks, and preachers interested in spreading Zakat awareness in the community.
700 Thousand Dirhams of the Zakat Amounts Offered to Students
The Zakat Fund has provided nearly 700 thousand dirhams to the students in need within the framework of the project "Read" since the beginning of this year, as a part of the operational plan of the Fund.
His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary General of the Zakat Fund issued checks worth 132500 dirhams, for payment of the school fees of 85 school students in three educational directorates. One check, with the vale of 99500 dirhams was presented to Ameena Thany Mubarak, from Ajman Educational Directorate; a second with the value of 17000 was presented to Al-Sharjah Educational Office, and was received by Ismail Abdul-Kareem Al-Mansuri; and a third with the amount of 16000 dirhams was presented to Ras Al-Kheimah Directorate, and received by Najia Eesa Al-Maftoul.
The Zakat Fund approves the operational plan for 2010
The board of directors of the Zakat Fund held its second meeting for 2009 at the Fund headquarters in Abu Dhabi, headed by His Excellency Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw'an Al-Dhahiry, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Fund.
In the beginning of the meeting, the board praised the donation of His Highness General Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, may Allah protect him, for granting the fund a plot of land for the Fund's headquarters.
The Zakat amounts collected rise by 26% in the first quarter of this year
Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the Secretary General of the Zakat Fund, assured the rise of the Zakat amounts collected during the first quarter of this year by 26% compared to the same period of last year, with the collection through electronic payment and mobile phones having increased by 63% during the same period. Al-Muheiry pointed out that this rise confirms the stability of the economic situation of the UAE and that the decisions made by the Government in dealing with the sequences of the global financial crisis led to rapid recovery from this crisis and retaining economic growth.
The Zakat Fund offers six million dirhams of assistance during the first quarter
The Zakat Fund continues to provide assistance for students and patients within the project of cooperation with humanitarian and charitable foundations and institutions for the plan of the first quarter of 2009. Manager of the Department of Zakat Beneficiaries, Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Ballushi, Jamal Khalaf Al-Mazru'i, Manager of the Department of Zakat Resources and Information, and Ahmed Al-Hawsani, Manager of the Human Resources and Services of the Zakat Fund presented assistance checks to the Abu Dhabi educational district.
A Workshop for Effectuation of the Agreement of Understanding between the Zakat Fund and the Ministry of Interior
A joint workshop with the Zakat Fund was held at the General Department of the Correctional Facilities of the Ministry of Interior for activating the agreement signed between the two sides, concerning providing help to the indebted prisoners.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Yusuf Al-Humaidi, Manager of the Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs, and Chairman of the Committee of Agreement Effectuation; and lieutenant colonel Said Al-Zayudi, Manager of the Department of Rehabilitation and Training in the General Department. It was also attended by the members of the committees formed by the Ministry from the entire UAE for the realization of the Agreement.
The Zakat Fund studies with Islamic institutions the mechanisms of Zakat collection
Chaired by His Excellency Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw'an Al-Dhahiry, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Fund's board of directors, a coordination meeting was held by the Zakat Fund at the Emirates Palace with banks and Islamic institutions to discuss the mechanisms of the collection of Zakat. This comes following the ministerial decision, which called for the collection of Zakat from these institutions through direct coordination with them without the need for binding legal texts in this regard.
His Excellency Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw'an Al-Dhahiry stressed, in his opening word, the need for and importance of cooperation with the Fund, as an independent federal body established by Federal Law No. (4 / 2003) by the late Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. The Fund is now being supported by His Highness Sheikh Khalifah Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The Zakat Fund board of directors commended the favor of His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces by granting the Fund a plot of land to use for establishing a permanent headquarters of the Fund in Abu Dhabi.

Muhammad Bin Zayid grants the Zakat Fund a plot of land for establishing a permanent headquarters in Abu Dhabi
His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces granted the Zakat Fund a plot of land for establishing the Fund headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
This came during his reception of the Zakat Fund board of directors members at Qasr El-Bahr, and the board members were headed by His Excellency Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw'an Al-Dhahiry, Minister of Justice and Board Chairman.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society for the Service of the Zakat Duty
The Zakat Fund signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society by virtue of which the society shall provide free sites for the installation of ATMs for the collection of Zakat in its subsidiaries throughout Abu Dhabi, as a contribution from the society to the revival of the neglected duty of Zakat.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the Secretary-General of the Fund; and Ahmed Ali Matar Ar-Rumaithi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society; and the event was attended by Faisal Al-Arshi, Deputy Manager of the Society.
