The Assistance Provided by the Zakat Fund Increase by 130%
The assistance provided by the Zakat Fund this year was increased by 130% as compared to last year, as the beneficiaries received approximately 30 million and 111 thousand dirhams, compared to 13 millions in 2008, whereas the assistance provided by the Fund since its foundation in 2004 reached 150 millions, and the revenues of corporate Zakat increased by 600% as compared to 2008.
The Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund in Abu Dhabi, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry stated that the Fund works continuously for serving Zakat, and exerts all efforts possible to ensure the flow of assistance, pointing out that since the beginning of the global economic crisis a special team was formed to avoid any decrease in the amounts of assistance. Said team undertook organizing media campaigns in all media, in addition to the visits and conferences organized in cooperation with the companies and Islamic banks in the UAE, as well as the post campaigns, and SMS to enhance communication with the Zakat payers, in addition to the printed materials and books which explain the services and projects of the Fund and spread Zakat awareness. He pointed out that the results were better than expected, as corporate Zakat increased by 600% as compared to 2008 due to the atmosphere of stability that prevail in the UAE, thanks to the correct financial policies in dealing with the crisis and the high spirit of solidarity among the members of the Islamic community in the times of crisis.
Abu Dhabi The Manager of the Zakat Beneficiaries Department, Muhammad Sulayman stated that 1900 students will benefit from the Fund's grants annually. He pointed out that the Fund provides 6000 dirhams per student a year and 99.9% of the beneficiaries are from residents. He added that the Fund contributes to the payment of tuition fees for students under certain conditions after submitting a request to the Fund explaining his/her case, accompanied by the father's salary statement as well as a statement showing the value of the bank debt and monthly installment, if any.

In a series of events organized by the Zakat Fund in materialization of the human and social aspects of the its activities, a team of the Fund's staff comprising a delegation from the Departments of Zakat Beneficiaries, and Zakat Revenues and Information, paid a visit to the patients at Sheikh Khalifah Medical City managed by Cleveland Clinic, to alleviate the patients' suffering, and to inquire after their health and wish them speedy recovery.

The Zakat Fund and Al-Hilal Bank Agree to Collect Zakat Electronically
In an integrated framework for achieving strategic partnership in the field of payment through the service of collecting Zakat, the Zakat Fund and Al-Hilal Bank agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the collection of Zakat amounts electronically through the Bank's electronic channels, to make Zakat payment available for the bank's customers.

The Zakat Fund Launches the Complaints and Suggestions Portal on its Website
The Zakat Fund launched a new portal on its website to receive complaints and suggestions from the masses of customers with a view to developing and improving performance.
HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund stated that the main concern in the Fund is facilitating dealing with the Fund for both Zakat payers and recipients and receiving suggestions and complaints that will have the best effect in the development of the Fund's services.
Al-Muheiry affirmed that the suggestions and complaints will be considered seriously and effectively because criticism can lead to better performance and working to achieve excellence, due to the fact that the Fund offers a service with the primary aim of improving and providing the appropriate level of living for all categories of recipients. Al-Muheiry stated that the service e-mail is suggest@zakatfund.ae, and it is checked 24 hours a day, because it is one of the most important channels of communication with customers and our portal to develop and improve the working environment by benefiting from the views and proposals submitted.
The Zakat Fund Concludes its Tenth Course on Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting in Dubai
The tenth course on Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting held over five days at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The course was attended by individuals and financers and accountants from the state and private companies and enterprises, and from many associations and foundations.
HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund honored the name of His Excellency Ubaid Al-Jabir and his family for sponsoring the course, and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry represented by Mr. Atiq Jum'a Nasib, Head of the Commercial Services Sector, then he honored the participants in the tenth course held for the first time in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The Launch of the Tenth Course on the Jurisprudence and Zakat Accounting in Dubai
Today, the Zakat Fund launches, the tenth course on Zakat jurisprudence an accounting, for the first time in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, which will last for five days in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dubai, with the participation of financers and accountants from both the state and private corporations, and many private associations and charities. HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund stated that the Fund continues to provide such courses due to the urgent need to organize this kind of specialized lectures on Jurisprudence and Zakat accounting, to compensate for the lack of such specialized material, and to confirm the keenness of the Fund to play its role in disseminating awareness of the importance of Zakat and create a secure society that enjoys solidarity.
The Zakat Fund implemented social projects which are worth 150 million dirhams
The Zakat Fund implemented many charitable and social projects which are estimated to cost approximately 150 million dirhams over the past five years. Those projects contributed to alleviating the suffering of many needy families through extending the scope of charity and solidarity in the different emirates in materialization of the wise policy of the UAE leaders and government in facilitating the daily life requirements for both citizens and residents in the UAE.
Zakat Is Obligatory Even On the Incorporations Whose Accounts Show Loss
HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, stated: The Zakat is obligatory on companies and incorporations, even in the case of loss as long as the owned value has reached the minimum of Zakat value, i.e. the price of 85 grams of 24 carat gold.
In a brief to Al-Ittihad Newspaper, Al-Muheiry stated that blessing and prosperity can be achieved by the losing company by paying Zakat, indicating that Zakat is an obligatory duty that cannot be neglected even in the event of commercial loss.
Al-Muheiry added that a large number of business owners commit a grave mistake when they think that the losing companies are exempted from Zakat, due to the fact that the profit or loss may be realized on the part of the goods owned by the business owner at the end of the year, and the condition of Zakat payment is the availability of possessions.
HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund honored the sponsors of the ATM service at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, and offered the ATM shield to institutions, corporations and the public figures who contributed to the ATM service by providing free sites, both in their institutions, and in the shopping malls, or financial support for the manufacture of the ATM dispensers. The Zakat Fund Approves Allocating 10 Million Dirhams for the Iqra (Read) Project
In its regular meeting No. 20, the Zakat Distribution Committee of the Zakat Fund chaired by HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary-General of the Fund with the membership of a group of trustworthy people from inside and outside the Fund approved allocating 10 million dirhams for students as part of the Iqra (Read) Project sponsored by the Fund to alleviate the suffering of the needy students.
Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry stated: "Through the Iqara (Read) project, the Zakat Fund aims to provide a secure environment for the students in need from among the citizens and non-citizens through the payment of their school fees to help them concentrate on seeking knowledge. Our students represent a great asset in our nation's dveleopment, and the Fund devotes great attention to this project whose idea is derived from the first command to Prophet Muhammad by Allah Almighty: "Read!"
The World Institute for Zakat Sciences Visits the Zakat Fund
The Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, received the delegation of the Sudanese World Institute for Zakat Sciences at the headquarters of the Zakat Fund in Abu Dhabi, during the visit to the UAE to discuss the means of joint cooperation.
The delegation, led by Taj al-Sir Mirghani Ohmidi, the secretary of the Institute, accompanied by Ali Muhammad Ali Bdioui, the Secretary of the Information and Research and Omar Al-Amin Al-Husseini, Cultural Advisor of the Sudanese embassy visited the headquarters of the Zakat Fund in Abu Dhabi to discuss the mechanisms of coordination and cooperation, and to review the leading experience of the Fund, and its work system, as well as to benefit from the Fund's experience.
