8.5 Million Dirhams Raised During the First Days of the Second Media Compaign Launched by Zakat Fund Under the Slogan of “Al-Haq Al-Ma'loum” (The Known Right)

Amounts of money collected by Zakat Fund in Abu Dhabi was four times the amounts collected during the same time last year. This was achieved since the Fund’s second media campaign, launched during last month under the slogan of “The Known Right”. This was announced by Abdullah Aqeida Al-Mhairi, Secretary General of the Zakat Fund. Aqeida announced that the amounts of money collected from Zakat payers amounted to 8.5 million Dirhams, an amount which is four times what was raised last year, at the outset of the Fund’s first media campaign.
The Egyptian Mufti Pays Tribute to the Zakat Fund and its Significant Role

Sheikh Ali Gom'a, Mufti of Egypt, who currently visits Emirates, was received by Al-Mhairi, Zakat Fund Secretary General, at the Funds headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by Hamdan Muslim Al-Mazrou'i, assistant under secretary of state in the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments. Many issues relating to Zakat as a religious duty, such as modern ways to invest Zakat money without the violation of Shari'a law (Islamic Jurisprudence), how to specify those who deserve it, how to speed up Zakat payment, and many other relevant issues were discussed in the meeting.

Zakat Fund Winds up the Functions of the Symposium on the Practical Aspects of the Legal Rulings of the Zakat and Its Calculation

The functions, of the symposium concerning the contemporary aspects for the application of the legal rulings of Zakat and its calculation, were held in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Crown Plaza Hotel, in Abu Dhabi, the night before yesterday. It had been winded up two days ago. 120 male and female trainee accountants and financial auditors had participated in the symposium which lasted for five days. These Trainees came from different governmental sectors, the military forces and the private sector in addition to some other individuals. Dr. Essam Abul Nasr, Accountancy professor at Al-Azhar University, lectured in this symposium.

This course is organized by the Fund in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Abu Dhabi, which will last for three days. The course is attended by 120 participants representing governmental and private bodies.
Zakat Fund Pays 2.5 Million Dirhams to Sponsor the Project of "Fending for Students”

In the context of the joint cooperation between both of the Zakat Fund and the Red Crescent Authority, the Fund presented 2.5 million (two million and five hundred thousand Dirhams) to support the efforts of the Red Crescent in favour of the education sector in our country. 1000 students coming from vulnerable families that cannot afford their tuition fees in private schools will be sustained by the Fund during the current year.

Yesterday, Bin Aqieda, Secretary General of the Fund, announced the launch of the second media campaign advocating the obligation of Zakat under the slogan of “Al-Haq Al-Ma'loum” (The Known Right). He made reference to the distribution of 14.5 million Dirhams (the Fund’s harvest in the first campaign) on deserving people, all over the country. This statement has been made in a press conference, held at the Zakat Fund headquarters. The conference was attended by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Bloushi, head of the Legal Department, and Sheikh Khalifa Al-Sa'di, the Information Coordinator.
UN Development Programme and Zakat Fund Discuss Their Joint Cooperation for Supporting the Needy

A delegation from the UN Development Programme has visited the Zakat Fund head quarter in Abu Dhabi. During the visit the delegation reviewed the activities and functions undertaken by the Fund in the field of charitable and humanitarian deeds reviving the Zakat obligation as well as the right way to pay it to the poor and needy. His Excellency Abdullah Bin Aqeida, the Fund’s Secretary General, explained briefly to his Excellency Gheith Hamdi Friz, who is in charge of the UN Development Programme, and to the Programme’s delegation, the Fund’s objectives as well as its organizational and administrative structures which include four departments which are: - Zakat Deserving Department. - Zakat Resources Department. - Media and Finance Department. - Human Resources Department.
Zakat Fund Starts Registration for the Second Training Course on the Applicable Aspects of the Legal Rulings of Zakat and its Calculation

After the big success of the training course on the applicable aspects of the legal rulings of Zakat and its calculation, which was launched by the Zakat Fund last November, the Fund is getting ready to start registration for the second training course this year. The Fund arranged for course which is going to be held in the period between 12th and 17th September, 2005 in the head quarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Abu Dhabi.
Zakat Fund Distributes Zakat Money Among 1170 Eligible Cases in Ajaman and Um Al-Qiween.

In cooperation with the Red Crescent authority in Ajman, Zakat Fund distributes on beneficiary families in the Emirates of Ajman and Um Al-Qiween. This took place in the context of cooperation and coordination in charitable work between the Zakat Fund and the Red Crescent Organization, Muhammed Nasr As-Sweedi, director of the Red Crescent's branch in Ajman said that the money distributed -which amounted to 760 thousands Dirham- has been given to 1170 eligible cases (772 men and 398 women) in the two Emirates. He explained that the branch drafted lists for eligible beneficiaries of the Zakat money.
