Yesterday, the Zakat Fund Board of Directors held its first meeting for 2006 in its headquarters at Abu Dhabi. The meeting was presided over by His Excellency Muhammad Bin Nukhayrah Al-Dhahiry, the Minister of Justice, and the Chairman of the Fund, and was attended by Rashid Bin Dimas Al-Swaidy, Vice Chairman; His Excellency Faraj Bin Fadil Al-Mazru’i; His Excellency Ubayd Al-Jabir; His Excellency Faraj Bin Ali Bin Hammuda; and His Excellency Mubarak Bin Abdullah Al-Muheiry.

Five Million Dirhams is the Budget of Zakat Fund, Whereas Its Actual Needs Amount to 11 Million Dirhams

Abdullah Ibn 'Aqeidah Al-Mhairi, Secretary General of Zakat Fund, expressed his dismay concerning the budget of the Fund this year. This is estimated at five million Dirhams. He confirmed that the actual needs of the Fund amounts to eleven million Dirhams. Therefore, he called upon the authorities responsible to reconsider this budget; especially that 30% of this budget or more is allocated to advertising campaigns. As he was interviewed by "Al-Bayan", he also declared that the total earnings of the Zakat Fund, since it was established, are forty million Dirhams. All of these sums were distributed, jointly with the Red Crescent, among more than one hundred thousand people, including the citizens and other residents.

A delegation from the International Program of the UK Charity Commission visited the Zakat Fund to become acquainted with the Funds’ goals, programs, and work mechanisms. Mr./Nabil Ahmad Al-Bu’ainayn, the Manager of Human Resources and Services in the Zakat Fund received the delegation which comprised Mrs. Allison Hall, the Political and Information Attaché in the British Embassy, and Mrs./Deedy Alaily from the International Program of Charity Commission, as well as a group of the Fund staff.

Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the Fund realized significant strides in its work since its foundation, and it concentrated on reaching the largest number of people in the society through promotional campaigns. The Fund managed to introduce itself to the society and familiarize the importance and status of Zakat, and pointed out the role of mass media in promoting the Fund’s activities.
The legal committee of Zakat Fund headed by Sheikh Muhammed Abdullah Sedeeq, director of the Department of Legislation and Fatwa in the Ministry of Justice, is holding its meeting today at the Fund's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The committee will discuss a number of the issues listed on the agenda; on the top of these issues comes the list of those who deserve Zakat, the strategic goals and policies of the Fund and launching a forum for Zakat on the internet.
The First Stage of the Project, Through Which Zakat Money was Distributed Among 10 Thousand Families, is Fulfilled

The Zakat Fund Distributes 950 Thousand Dirhams to the Needy at Ras Al-Kheima

The Zakat Fund at Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the Red Crescent Authority Branch at Ras Al-Kheima started distributing 950 thousand dirhams of the Zakat amounts, beginning from yesterday, and will continue the distribution for three weeks. The number of beneficiaries is expected to reach 5 thousand persons belonging to 800 families. Muhammad Bin Zayid Al-Shuhiy, Manager of the Red Crescent Authority Branch at Ras Al-Kheima stated that the beneficiaries are registered in the registers of the Branch, and all of them are among the needy families and social categories that have limited incomes.
Zakat Fund started paying Zakat money to the poor and the needy all over the different cities and regions of the country. This is accomplished in collaboration with The Red Crescent Authority. The money to be given out amounts to 8 million Dirhams. His Excellency Mohammad Bin Nkhairah Az-Zahiri, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zakat Fund, said that this campaign is undertaken within the framework of the Zakat Fund’s effort to enhance Zakat obligations and highlight its vital and effective role in supporting poor segments within the community.

His Excellency, Abdullah 'Aqeidah Al-Mhairi, the Secretary-General of Zakat Fund, declared that the recently released website of the Zakat Fund achieved unexpected great demand. Despite the fact that it has been launched two weeks ago, the programme of Fatwas included on the website witnessed an excellent demand. The website also received different kinds of inquiries, most of which were related to the due Zakat on shares, gold, dates and sheep. He also made it clear that the website is not only receiving inquiries from the country of the United Arab Emirates, but also form different Arab and foreign countries.

Ubayd A-Jabir, a businessman, donates a million dirhams to the projects of the Zakat Fund. This was stated by Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund who expressed his happiness about the response of businesspeople, and government and private sector institutions at Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE, to the call of charity directed by the Zakat Fund. This way, the Fund is adopting the method of late/Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al-Nahayyan, may Allah have mercy on him, and his Successor, Sheikh Khalifah Bin Zayid Al-Nahayyan, President of the UAE, may Allah protect him.
