In appreciation of his efforts, last week, the Zakat Fund honored Sheikh Muhamamd Abdullah Bin Al-Siddiq, the mufti of Abu Dhabi Court, one of the founders of the Zakat Fund, and the Head of its Legal Committee during the past two years. During this period, he participated in discussing and laying many of the regulations of the Zakat Fund, particularly the regulation of beneficiaries approved in the last meeting of the committee, and he answered a large number of questions received by the Fund.
600 Thousand Dirhams from the Red Crescent Authority and the Zakat Fund for Supporting the Patients

Yesterday, the department of health and medical services at Dubai revealed a new initiative by the Zakat Fund and the Red Crescent Authority for supporting the patients who could not afford to pay the expenses of treatment to hospitals, by granting them 600 thousand dirhams. During the press conference held in his office yesterday, His Excellency Qadi Said Al-Meroshed, the General the Manager of the Department applauded this initiative, which embodies social solidarity by relieving the suffering of the needy patients and their families, and enabling them to get treatment without any psychological pressures. The conference was also attended by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, and Mr./ Muhammad Abdullah Al-Hajj Al-Zar’uny, Manager of the Red Crescent Office at Dubai.

This was stated by His Excellency in his word, which he delivered in the inauguration ceremony of launching the third promotional campaign of the Fund under the slogan: “A Call to Observing the Recognized Right” under the sponsorship of His Excellency Muhammad Bin Nukhayrah Al-Dhahiri, the Minister of Justice, and Chairman of the Fund.

The Zakat Fund Inaugurates the Third Course on the Applicative Aspects of the Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting

First yesterday, the actualities of the third course on the applicative aspects of the Zakat jurisprudence and Accounting was started at the headquarters of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the participation of number of delegations from the GCC countries. The course seeks to familiarize the companies and institutions’ accountants with the principles of Shari’ah and the Zakat accounting rules, as well as spreading awareness of the importance of Zakat in the society.
The First Phase of the Total National Zakat Amounts Continues

The Zakat Fund continues its efforts in implementing the first phase of the project of the total national Zakat amounts study, considered the first of its kind in both the Arab and Muslim worlds, to realize the vision of the Fund “A Contemporary Vision of a Duty of Shari’ah”, through which it seeks employing modern means in promoting Zakat. The first phase concentrated on collecting information from the companies and institutions in Abu Dhabi, to be followed by the rest of emirates in the following steps. The number of messages sent to the companies and institutions reached 112 thousand massages, expected to increase in the coming few days. Attached to the messages are the forms and lists required to be filled by the companies, as a first phase of the study. Such information will be extracted in special lists and then delivered to an experience house to conduct the study through analyzing and estimating the information, according to the accounting financial criteria, to reach the conclusion. The Fund also received a number of queries from contacted companies concerning some items on the forms and lists which the Fund answered and explained with complete transparency. It also received the required forms and lists from a number of companies, including Al-Nour Medical Company, Al-Ain Insurance Company, Al-Dhafrah Insurance Company, and the Great Mills Company. Contacting the companies was carried out through coordination with the UAE Mail, which exerted great efforts to help make this task a success, whereby it gained the respect of the General Secretariat of the Fund.
The Zakat Fund Distributes Two Million Dirhams to Beneficiaries

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the Fund distributed two million dirhams of the Zakat amounts to beneficiaries throughout the different parts of the UAE in collaboration with Beit Al-Kheir Society in Dubai, and Al-Fujayrah Charitable Society. He also stated that the Fund signed a number of memoranda of understanding with a number of charitable societies in the UAE, as a part of the Fund’s strategic policies for materializing cooperation with such societies by assigning a portion of the Zakat amounts collected by the Fund to them with a view to distributing them in their emirates. He further stated that the Fund has completed the distribution of two million dirhams to beneficiaries at Al-Fujayah through the local Charitable Society, to 5750 persons belonging to 1000 families. Moreover, one million dirhams was distributed to the beneficiaries at Dubai through Beit El-Kheir Society to 16914 persons belonging to 2484 families.
The Zakat Fund Organizes the Third Course on the Applicative Aspects of the Zakat Jurisprudence and Accounting in Next September

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the third course on the applicative aspects of the Zakat jurisprudence and accounting on September 3, 2006 to be continued until September 7. Organizing such courses and workshops comes in the framework of the Zakat Fund’s efforts to familiarize the society with the Zakat jurisprudence and its contemporary issues, paticularly the people working in finance and accounting, and realizing the vision of the Fund, through which it seeks employing all modern means in promoting Zakat. Bin Oqeidah also stated that this course is organized in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and under the gracious sponsorship of His Excellency Ubayd Al-Jabir, the member of the Board of Directors and his family. The Manager of the Fund stated that the course would address important issues through workshops, and a number of aspects like the practical procedures of calculating Zakat, the tools and accounting methods of Zakat, accounting of assets Zakat, as well as applicative cases of industrial and commercial business. Add to these, applicative cases of Zakat on profession-generated incomes, cash, jewelry, stocks, salaries and wages, and the applicative cases of the combination of Zakat and tax.
5.5 Billion Dirhams ….the Average of Zakat to be Paid by 59 Millionaires in the UAE

The Zakat Fund estimated the annual average of Zakat amounts that should be paid by 59 millionaires at 5.5 billion dirhams. His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund announced the Fund’s intention to study the numbers of poor people and the poorest areas in the UAE, pointing out that the study needs accurate information, describing the information available so far as being inaccurate and arbitrary.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Zakat Fund and Al-Fujayrah Charitable Society

Muhammad Said Al-Raqbani, Special Counselor of His Highness the Ruler of Al-Fujayrah, and Chairman of Al-Fujayrah Charitable Society, and Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund signed a memorandum of understanding according to which continuous cooperation between the two sides will be started to support the poor and needy in the Eastern Coast.

This morning, Sultan Ali Bin Batty Al-Muheiry, Vice Chairman of Al-Sharjah Society and His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund signed a memorandum of understanding at the headquarters of the Islamic forum at Al-Sharjah concerning the materialization of partnership in charitable and humanitarian work. They distributed Zakat amounts to the beneficiaries registered in the Society, and the Society will deliver financial aids from the Fund to chaste families at Al-Sharjah, and the Fund approved of this idea. During a press conference held after the meeting, Sultan Al-Muheiry valued the Fund’s role throughout the UAE, as well as its interest in Al-Sharjah Charitable Society by presenting to it a portion of the Zakat amounts to distribute it to the needy.
The Zakat Fund Starts the First Phase of the Project of the Total National Zakat Amounts Study

The Legal Committee of the Zakat Fund Discusses the Work of the Fund

Yesterday, the legal committee of the Zakat Fund held its fourth meeting this year in the Fund headquarters at Abu Dhabi, and it was headed by Sheikh Dr./Hassan Muhammad Al-Marzuqi. The committee discussed a number of issues concerning the enhancement of the Zakat Fund, such as approving the last meeting minutes and considering and approving the rest of items on the Zakat beneficiaries bylaw, as well as the media campaign to be launched in two months. The committee also reviewed the course of work in the Zakat forum with its different sections, and emphasized the committee’s members’ participation in the forum to enrich it.
The Zakat Fund Distributes One Million Dirhams Jointly with Beit El-Kheir Society

Abdullah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the amounts collected by the Fund since 2004 reached 48 million dirhams, 3 millions of which were consigned to the Red Crescent Authority which benefited 35 thousand families. Moreover, 3 millions were consigned to Muhammad Bin Rashid’s Charitable Foundation, one million to Beit Al-Kheir Society, and the rest will be consigned to it during the coming few days to be distributed to beneficiaries. This was announced during the press conference held yesterday at Beit Al-Kheir Society during the signing of a memorandum of understanding. He added: “We are happy with the memorandum for the sake of enhancing charity work and delivering Zakat to beneficiaries in a way that keeps their dignity and spares them any difficulty. Al-Muheiry applauded the role of Beit Al-Kheir Society in promoting charity work and its contribution to relieving the suffering of the needy.
More than 100 Thousand Visitors Visit the Fund website

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the Fund website: www.zakatfund.ae gained extensive interest from Arab and foreign visitors since launching it, as the number of visitors reached 100 thousands in 9 months. The majority of visitors were from the UAE with a percentage of 46%, then KSA 14%, as well as from Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Algeria, and Palestine. Among the foreign countries, numbers of visitors were from USA, France, UK, Germany, Indonesia, Barbados, Ireland, Hong Kong, and Australia. He ascribed this interest to its being the first of its kind and the information it provides about Zakat, derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah, as well as the contemporary services it provides. The Fund is also considered a translation of the Fund’s slogan: A Contemporary Vision of a Duty of Shari’ah.
The Zakat Fund and Zayid Foundation for Humanitarian Care Discuss Cooperation
