The Zakat Fund organizes this course in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the sponsorship of the companies of Bin Harmal Sons. This is the first course to be held in Al-Ain City.

Yesterday, His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, received a delegation from Dubai Charitable Society at the Zakat Fund headquarters. The delegation comprised Ahmad Muhammad Mismar, General Secretary of Dubai Charitable Society and Hussein Abdul-Rahim Qurqash, Chairman of the Society. A number of the Fund employees attended the meeting in which the topics of common interest were discussed. General Secretary of the Zakat Fund talked about the methods of spreading Zakat and the obstacles thereof.

His Excellency, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, expressed the honor conferred on the Fund for hosting the meeting, the first to be held outside the General Secretariat of the GCC, hoping that it will achieve its desired aims, and support the course of Zakat foundations.

The Zakat Fund organizes the fourth meeting for the chairmen of Zakat foundations in the states of the GCC in 28-29 November. The Fund attended the preliminary sessions for this meeting in Riyadh at Saudi Arabia, the headquarters of General Secretariat of the GCC in last September. The meeting will discuss a number of ideas and suggestions of common interest about Zakat. These include the awareness media program and the proposal presented by the Organization of Joint Program Production of the GCC, as well as coordination with the Ministries of Islamic Affairs concerning religious address in Zakat awareness materials, and adopting common training plan for the people working in Zakat foundations.

The Legal Committee of the Zakat Fund held its meeting yesterday morning in the Fund’s headquarters at Abu Dhabi, under the chairmanship of his Excellecny, Dr. Noah Bin Ali Bin Salman Al-Qudah, and the membership of Dr. Ahmad Abdul-Aziz Al-Haddad, Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Rahim Sultan Al-Ulama and Dr. Abdul-Aziz Mostafa Al-Khalid. The Last Institution Founded by Zayid: The Zakat Fund Collected 72 Million Dirhams, which Benefited Thousands of Families

The idea of establishing the Zakat Fund came to the mind of late/Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al-Nahayyan, may Allah have mercy on him, out of concern for the third pillar of Islam, deriving it from the great Islamic legacy extending from the early Islamic period of the Prophet and the Companions to the present time. The idea of the Fund appeared for the fist time in 1984, as a federal decree (no. 37) was issued for establishing a national Zakat council, but the idea did not materialize. However, the idea continued to preoccupy the mind of the late Sheikh Zayid since then. His initiative was represented in founding a federal institution concerned with the affairs of Zakat; collecting it from the benefactors and distributing it to the needy for establishing social solidarity and familiarizing people with the areas of charitable work and social welfare. Therefore, His Highness issued federal law no. 4 for 2003 decreeing the foundation of the Zakat Fund and formation of a board of directors with the membership from among dignitaries and charitable people from the different Emirates of the UAE.
Zakat Fund: 5.5 Billion Dirhams Required from the UAE Millionaires

The Zakat Fund revealed that the UAE 59000 millionaires, according to the most recent statistics, are required to pay 5.5 billion dirhams for the present year, according to a study made by the Fund on the due Zakat amounts, which they should pay. The study calculated the amounts according to the minimum of wealth of the rich people, estimated at one million, assuring that most of them own more than said amount.

Yesterday the Zakat Fund Board of Directors held its periodic meeting for 2006 in the headquarters of the Fund at Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of His Excellency Muhammad Bin Nukhayrah Al-Dhahiry, the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Awqaf, and attendance of His Excellency, Rashid Bin Dimas, Vice Chairman of the Zakat Fund. The meeting was also attended by the members of the Board of Directors, including His Excellency, Faraj Bin Hammuda, Mubarak Bin Abdullah Al-Muheiry, Ahmad Al-Khatiry, Sultan Al-Matroushi, Ibrahim Al-Ali and Abdullah Al-Yamahi; and His Excellency, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund. The meeting started by asking Allah to have mercy on and forgive His Highness, Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al-Nahayyan, and his brother Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, for what they offered of services for supporting humanitarian and charitable work including the foundation of the Zakat Fund. The conferees felicitated His Highness, Sheikh Khalifah Bin Zayid Al-Nahayyan, President of the UAE, may Allah protect him, and his brother, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President, and Prime Minister; and his heir apparent, and the members of the Supreme Council, the Rulers of the Emirates, as well as the UAE people on Eidul-Fitr.
Payment of the Zakat … A Simple Matter and Quick Action

The Red Crescent Receives 4 Million Dirhams from Zakat Fund for Supporting Students

The Red Crescent Authority received 4 million dirhams from the Zakat Fund for paying the school fees for 2000 students, in the different educational stages, who belong to families that do not meet the rules controlling admission to government schools, and cannot afford to pay the school fees of private schools in the present school year, through the "Read Project".

The Zakat Fund Launches the First Service of e-Payment in Collaboration with Dubai e-Government

Yesterday, in collaboration with the Zakat Fund at Abu Dhabi, Dubai e-Government launched the first service of Zakat e-payment through the Zakat Fund website: www.zakatfund.ae, which is expected to facilitate the payment of Zakat by Zakat payer from his current account at Dubai bank, via credit cards, or e-dirham.
