Al-Sharjah Charity started to distribute an amount of one million dirhams of the Zakat amounts, offered by the Zakat Fund, to the self-restrained families whose cases were studied by the social researchers of the Internal Aids Department, and whose number amounted to 1718 families.

Muhammad Jabir Al-Housany, the Manager of Humanitarian Resources and Services in the Zakat Fund, said that the Fund’s participation with Al-Fujayrah Charity comes in response to the directions of the board of directors, and its concern for realizing the goals of the Fund. He stated that the most important goals are spreading Zakat awareness among the members of the society and emphasizing the importance of the Zakat Duty, based on collecting Zakat according to the scientific and legal bases, and distributing it in its legal channels. He stressed the fact that the Fund’s administration seeks to spread the values of solidarity and compassion among the members of the society, and that the Fund’s participation in the campaign of Al-Fujayrah Charity comes in continuity of the Fund’s own campaign of providing aid and help for the needy.

The Zakat Fund presented 12 million dirhams to the Ministry of Social Affairs to distribute to 21854 from among those covered by social security throughout the UAE. The ministry is to start electronic distribution during the coming few days though the ATM cards. The Fund has received 24 million dirhams of the Zakat amounts over Ramadan, whereas the total amount received since the foundation of the Fund in 2004 until last year reached 93 millions.

Al-Muheiry: Payment of Zakat is not exclusive to the Zakat Fund

Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund negated any intention of excluding the payment of Zakat to the Fund, pointing out that the multiplicity of charity institutions throughout the UAE is for the benefit of humanitarian work, which is one of the distinguishing features of the UAE. He explained that the foundation of the Zakat Fund initiated by the late Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al-Nahayyan, may Allah have mercy on him, was for fulfilling the society’s need for an authority exclusively competent in Zakat, emphasizing the existing coordination between the Fund and the other humanitarian societies and authorities throughout the UAE. In an interview with Al-Ittihad newspaper, Al-Muheiry stated that the Government intends to increase the amount of support offered to the Fund for the next years to reach 14.5 million dirhams, as one of the fruits of the UAE Federal Government’s strategy, pointing out the positive effect of this decision on the Fund, whose budget for the past three years did not exceed 17 million dirhams.

Yesterday, the board of directors of the Zakat Fund held a meeting under the chairmanship of Muhammad Bin Nukhayrah Al-Dhahiry, the Minister of Justice. Al-Dhahiry launched the English version of the Zakat Fund’s website, a project sponsored by Faraj Bin Hammudah and His family, aiming at disseminating Zakat awareness and introducing the Zakat Fund to non-Arabic speaking peoples. The board of directors valued the website and its distinctive services, and discussed the Fund’s achievements over the past six months by reviewing its resources and the methods of distribution followed to convey the Zakat amounts to the beneficiaries. They also reviewed the actualities of the fourth promotional campaign made in the different mass media including TV, radio, and printed materials distributed in one of the Fund’s largest posting campaigns.

Yesterday, both Etisalat and the Zakat Fund announced the launch of the new service of the calculation and payment of Zakat through mobile phones. This was during the press conference held in the Pavilion of Etisalat in the Gulf Comex Fair in the presence of Khalifah Al-Shammasi, Deputy of the Executive Head of Marketing for Etisalat, and Jamal Al-Mazru’i, Manager of the Department of Zakat Resources and Information in the Fund.

The Zakat Fund launched its fourth promotional campaign under the slogan: “Join us in Reviving Zakat,” with the participation of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments. During the press conference held at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, asserted that the campaign comes in response to the government’s strategy announced by His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and the national institutions’ initiative of sponsoring the Fund’s activities and programs.
