Mona Kadhim, Manager of the Government Performance Department, and Mrs. Zakia Hammoud Al-Amri, Manager of Policies, to discuss the Zakat Fund strategic plan, and the common performance indicators of the federal ministries and bodies. The meeting was attended by the managers of the departments of the Zakat Fund.

The Zakat Fund board of directors held its first meeting for 2008 under the chairmanship of His Excellency Muhammad Bin Nukhayrah Al-Dhahiry, the Minister of Justice, and the presence of the members of the Board of directors and His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund. The board of directors discussed at its regular meeting several topics concerned with developing work in the Fund and activating the role of Zakat duty in the society.

In the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between the Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund received His Excellency Khamis Muhammad Abu Haroon member of the board of directors of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Mr. Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Head of the Private Banking Department. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Jamal Khalaf Al-Mazru’i, Manager of the Department of the Zakat Resources and Information. It addressed a number of common issues between the parties concerning activating the role of Zakat in the society through a range of modern banking electronic services between the Zakat Fund and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, and co-sponsoring the media campaigns on the Zakat Duty, and the electronic services provided by the Fund.

Four ATM Machines for the Disbursement and Payment of Zakat

The General Secretary of the Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry stated that the Fund intends to install four ATM machines for the disbursement and payment of Zakat amounts in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Al-Ain. He stated that this service will allow the disbursement of Zakat amounts to beneficiaries by magnetic cards in cash, or with checks and credit cards; and that these machines will be programmed to use all currencies. He added that businessmen (billionaires) did not pay their Zakat to the Fund, and explained that companies that have responded to the Fund’s call for determining the size of Zakat in the entire UAE, is not more than 1% of 140 thousand companies; and he accused the companies which did not respond to the Fund's call of avoiding exposing their financial statements.

80 specialists in the jurisprudence of Zakat graduate from the Zakat Fund in Al-Ain

First yesterday, the specialized course in the contemporary applied aspects of Zakat Jurisprudence and Accountancy, organized by the Zakat Fund, was concluded at Rotana Al-Ain Hotel. Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, stated that said course was the sixth one, organized by the Fund and that it benefited about 80 accountants, who work in the government and private sectors, and who have become qualified to calculate the Zakat of their institutions and companies in accordance with the legal and accountancy rules.
Launch of the Sixth Course of the Contemporary Applied Aspects of Zakat Jurisprudence and Accountancy in Al-Ain

First yesterday, the sixth course of the Contemporary Applicative Aspects of Zakat Jurisprudence and Accountancy was launched at the Rotana Hotel in Al-Ain. The course is organized by the Zakat Fund under the sponsorship of a group of companies, owned by Bin Harmal Sons. in the presence of Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, and Jamal Khalaf Al-Mazru’i, Manager of the Resources of Zakat. More than seventy bodies participated in the course, including Etisalat Co, the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Abu Dhabi Police, Adnok Company for Publication, Al-Ain Company for Publication, and the Health Authority as well as a number of businessmen, accountants, and university students in the UAE. The course, which will continue until the end of the week, aims at promoting the Zakat-based knowledge, in the government and private sectors alike, and graduating a group of qualified accountants who are capable of conducting Zakat accountancy of their companies and institutions. Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of Zakat Fund, emphasized in the word delivered by Jamal Khalaf Al-Mazru’i, on his behalf, that the Fund is reaping the success of the specialized courses related to the Zakat Jurisprudence and Accountancy, organized by the Fund for the third year successively. He added that more than 600 participants, who attended the five previous courses held in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain, have graduated, since the launch of the first course, pointing out the efforts extorted by the Fund for holding similar courses all over the UAE to benefit the entire society, including individuals and institutions, in both the government and private sectors. On his part, Jamal Al-Mazru’i stated: “The Fund seeks to receive the Zakat amounts and distribute them to the beneficiaries inside the UAE through its specified strategies, and holding courses, symposiums, and lectures for spreading Zakat awareness.”

The Zakat Fund explains its new electronic experiences during the fifth meeting of Zakat Institutions in Doha

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, headed the official delegation of the UAE to the fifth meeting of the Zakat Institutions in the GCC, held in the Qatari capital, Doha, last week. The meeting discussed a number of topics, such as the survey of the poverty problem in the GCC states, and contriving developed awareness programs for disseminating Zakat awareness. The meeting also addressed the idea of establishing a new electronic website for the Zakat Institutions in the GCC States, and forming a follow-up team for recording the obstacles these institutions encounter. Case studies of the beneficiaries were conducted, and those with urgent needs were chosen. Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, said that this step comes in the context of mobilizing efforts in all fields of donation, in the light of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifah Bin Zayid Al-Nahayyan, the President of UAE, to convey the Zakat amounts to the beneficiaries, for meeting the needs of living. He also asserted that the Zakat Fund seeks constantly, through its different programs and projects, to be a strong support of social solidarity in the UAE, as it is one of the gates open before all people, pointing out the Zakat Fund keenness on performing its humanitarian duties towards the beneficiaries.
