In continuation of the Zakat Fund work and future plans and strategy to provide the latest services that facilitate the payment of Zakat His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai reviewed the first ATM for accounting and payment of Zakat, which is the first of its kind in the region during GETEX 2008.
HE Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, stated that this service highlights the vigorous pursuit of the Fund to be the leading institution in the UAE by launching innovative services and solutions that meet the requirements of all people, and that the ATM is a distinctive addition to the package of electronic services provided by the Fund which seeks continuous innovation and development.
The Zakat Fund and the Ministry of Interior sign a memorandum of understanding to help the inmates of penal institutions

The Zakat Fund signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Interior to provide support for a new societal category, represented in the prisoners sentenced in the cases of insolvency and blood money and criminal cases, in support of the national action and humanitarian and social work.
Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw’an Al-Dhahiry, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Zakat Fund affirmed in the ceremony of signing the memorandum that the most important strategic principles which motivate the Zakat Fund are the social foundations of the general national strategy which aim to improve the methodology of social development. This will make the beneficiary groups an active part of the envisaged process of development, in addition to maintaining family stability and solidarity and ensuring prosperity for the citizens.

The number of families benefiting from the amounts provided by the Zakat Fund since its foundation until August this year amounted to 102876 families with 277330 family members that received about 103.903.073 dirhams.
The General Secretary of the Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry stated that most Zakat amounts were distributed through cooperation with the social development institutions, where 929.007 families, with 266601 members benefited from this project. This was followed by the “Iqra (Read)” project, which aimed at supporting students to help remove all the hardships hindering their educational attainment.

Large numbers of Zakat payers visit the Zakat Fund

The Zakat Fund announced that large numbers of Zakat payers visited the Zakat Fund to pay their Zakat and the breakfast Zakat. The General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, explained that most people visited the Fund during the evening, after the Fund announced that it would work full time during Ramadan, to present its services to visitors throughout the working day. The Zakat Fund accountants would receive the Zakat amounts from Zakat payers and a crew of employees would respond to questions and inquiries by the Zakat payers via telephone, where a wide range of questions and queries came through the electronic service (They ask you about the Zakat), which responds to inquiries either live or automatically through the free line or the Fund website.

The Zakat amounts collected during the first half of Ramadan rise by 30% amounting to 6.5 million dirhams, compared to the amounts collected during the same period of last Ramadan, which reached 5 million dirhams, according to the Secretary General Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry. Al-Muheiry added that the Zakat amounts collected in last Ramadan reached 15 million dirhams out of 122 million dirhams, which is the total amount collected during the past four years; while the number of recipients of the Zakat amounts reached 250 thousand people. Al-Muheiry attributed the rise in the amounts collected in Ramadan this year to the fifth media campaign launched by the Fund under the slogan ''Your Zakat helps them maintain their chastity” which aimed at increasing awareness of Zakat, and its role in life with a view to increasing the number of both the Zakat payers and recipients.
The Zakat Fund completes 50% of the awareness lectures project

The Zakat Fund has completed 50% of the awareness program lectures, which was organized at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan as one of the events of the fifth media campaign launched by the Fund, and which is planned to last until the end of Ramadan. The General Secretary of the Zakat Fund stated that the project covered three sectors in the educational field, including middle and secondary schools in addition to the woman's sector, including woman's associations and mosques, adding that the attendees showed significant interaction during the lectures by participating in the discussions. He maintained that the implementation of the project through aims at increasing awareness of the religious duties, particularly Zakat, among the members of the society, by highlighting its role in life, arousing interest in it, and instilling its principles in the minds of people.
2900 people visit the Zakat Fund website in three days, following the launch of the Zakat-on-shares program

The Zakat Fund announced that it had launched its new program of Zakat on shares on its website, which achieved great success within three days in terms of the number of visitors and the number of users of the service, being the first of its kind in the world. The General Secretary of the Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry stated that the number of visitors and users of the program amounted to 2900 people within three days; one hundred sixty people of whom used the program for calculating Zakat, pointing out that this number indicates success of the program.
The Zakat Fund board of directors reviews the media campaign and the program of Zakat on shares
His Excellency Dr. Hadif Bin Jaw’an Al-Dhahiry, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Zakat Fund chaired the regular meeting of the board of directors for 2008, which was attended by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, as well as the managers of a number of the Zakat Fund departments. The Zakat Fund received one and half million dirhams from His Excellency Ubayd Al-Jabir and his family in support of the programs of the Fund and the Zakat duty. His Excellency Ubayd Al-Jabir stated in a letter to His Excellency the General Secretary of the Zakat Fund, Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry that he is used to paying this amount annually to the Fund out of his belief in the importance of its role and for supporting its humanitarian programs in our society and our homeland. Ubayd Al-Jabir also called on businessmen and owners of companies and individuals to revive this duty and pay it due attention through paying their Zakat to this federal institution, whose main concern is receiving the Zakat amounts and disbursing them to the due recipients, so as to purify their wealth and contribute to enhancing the social solidarity programs in the UAE.
The Zakat Fund presents 5 modern machines for the payment of Zakat

The Secretary of Zakat Fund Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry announced that there will be installed five machines for the payment and disbursement of Zakat in the UAE this year. He said that this service allows the Zakat payers to pay their Zakat in cash or by check or credit card, pointing out that the machines will be programmed to accept all currencies. In a brief to Al-Imarat Al-Yawm daily newspaper, he stated that the Zakat recipients would benefit from this service through the disbursement of the Zakat amounts by using the magnetic cards because the machines will be connected to the Fund accounts, and there will be a program showing the movements of payments and disbursement to beneficiaries.
The Zakat Fund receives the delegation of Al-Ihsan Charitable Center

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, the General Secretary of the Zakat Fund received a delegation from Al-Ihsan Charitable Center headed by Mr. Abdul-Aziz Bin Ali Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Chief of the Executive Office of the Center; Mr. Abdullah Muhammad Al-Ja'dy, Manager of the Financial and Administrative Affairs, and of the Management and Development Department; and a number of the Center staff. Mr. Abdul-Aziz Bin Ali Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi made a presentation of the Center and its objectives and achievements, the most notable of which is the Medical Charitable Complex as well as a number of charitable projects for supporting orphans, widows, divorcees, the disable and the elderly, and as students and families. Then the delegation was briefed on the Fund's programs and electronic services for the calculation and payment of Zakat, the website of the Fund and its services, and the Department of Zakat recipients and its role in conducting research and studies of the recipients using the Fund's programs. There was also a review of the programs and activities of the campaign launched by the Fund last week under the slogan: "Your Zakat helps maintain their chastity", and the delegation members expressed their admiration for the campaign and the size of communication.
The Zakat Fund presents its services to the public through the evening shift throughout the holy month of Ramadan

Out of its keenness on providing the best Zakat services to the society, the Zakat Fund decided to extend its working hours to the night during the holy month of Ramadan, starting after the taraweeh (the night voluntary prayers) until midnight in the headquarters of the Zakat Fund, in Al-Khaleej Al-Arabi Street.
During the holy month, the Fund provides many services to Zakat payers for facilitating making inquiries and seeking fatwas on this duty, as a number of the members of the legal affairs office are available in the evening to respond to public inquiries and questions through the Zakat Fund free lines (8008222, and 8008333), or by receiving the inquirers at the Zakat Fund headquarters and explaining to them all matters related to Zakat. The Fund also has a number of collectors who are ready to calculate and collect the Zakat amounts directly.

Last Thursday at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abu Dhabi, the events of the seventh course on the contemporary applied aspects of Zakat jurisprudence and accounting organized by the Zakat Fund were concluded. The course lasted for five days with the participation of about one hundred twenty people from various financial institutions in the public and private sectors in the UAE. The closing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Rashid Bin Salim Al-Mazru'i, member of the board of directors and Mr. Jamal Khalaf Al-Mazru'i Manager of the Department of the Zakat Information and Resources and representatives of the companies sponsoring the course; i.e. the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abu Dhabi, Manazil Real Estae Company, Das Holding Company, and the permanent sponsor His Excellency Ubayd Al-Jabir and his noble family. Sponsors and participants in the course were honored by the Fund.
The Legal Committee of the Zakat Fund discusses the non-Islamic Banks Zakat

Yesterday morning, the fourth periodic meeting of the Legal Committee was held at the Zakat Fund under the chairmanship of Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Rahim Sultan Al-Ulama, Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Zakat Fund. The meeting addressed a number of legal issues of concern to the Fund work, and approved the minutes of the third meeting, which had been held at an earlier time.
